Doing Business As… Artist Entrepreneurs

Emergent

The Doing Business As… Artist Entrepreneurs Exhibition was founded in 2009. A collaboration between myself, Virginia Fifield and LeeAnna Yater. We took it upon ourselves to produce a professional high quality art exhibition in a public gallery; the three of us designed the concept and curated the first exhibition, complete with a catalogue to document the artists and their work.

Our mission was to launch the careers of it’s participating artists by mentoring and providing practical artistic experience and exposure for their artwork. The positive outcome of the first DBA exhibition persuaded us to continue this yearly event and promote our brand Doing Business As… Artist Entrepreneurs.

28th Annual Broward County Arts Teacher Of The Year

Congratulations to Timothy Leisner and all the winners at the 28th Annual Broward County Arts Teacher Of The Year.

Teaching Artist Of The Year Award

The Arts Teacher of The Year Awards Program highlights exceptional art teachers as well as arts students in Broward County. The event was held on Wednesday, November 6 at the Broward Center For The Performing Arts.

“Art education and opportunities to explore the Arts are essential for well rounded learning.  Children, and adult learners, benefit from exposure to the Arts  and art educational opportunities.  It saddens me to think that in many schools and so called educational institutions, the arts are viewed as unimportant and not fundamental to learning.  Art Education provides learning about the Arts, creativity, reaches into other curricular learning arenas, and supports personal and social-emotional growth.  Art education is vital to the education of All.” Timothy Leistner, ED.D.

You’ve Got Mail… Royal Mail

Dani Lynn and I were so excited to receive a second thank you note for the gift of The Fairy Tale Project Trilogy that we sent to Prince George.

Jacklyn Laflamme

We all have the power to be thankful and to thank others…

A nod, a phone call, a handwritten card, a warm sincere note to show gratitude can make someone’s day. The people you are thanking will feel fabulous about themselves and what they did to reach out to you.

Thank You to Dani Lynn who works tirelessly on the Fairy Tale Project.

A Creative Conversation

A Creative Conversation at The Broward Center For The Performing Arts was a very inspiring presentation by John Michael Schert, Executive Director of Trey McIntyer Project (TMP) who was instrumental in the formation and implementation of the nationally acclaimed contemporary dance troupe.

The discussion focused on how arts organizations can be relevant cultural assets in their communities. He explored how businesses and civic leaders can tap into creative talent in effective ways that help define a sense of place. He challenged the audience of artists and art organizations to increase their understanding of their worth as vital producers of new ideas and strategies that can propel industries, governments, and communities forward. Schert addresses creativity in bold, new ways looking at opportunities that are powerful, yet may be untapped, under-utilized, or under-monetized.

The Power to look beyond the obvious…

As artists we are programed to look beyond the obvious while creating our art work. In this particular case listening to Micheal Schert; His vision on the art world and the work that they do reminded me that we need to apply the creative thinking process to every aspect of our lives. If we practice this, not only will we be successful artists but community leaders and visionaries with a creative voice that can a make a difference.

Thank You to John Michael Schert for helping me to remember to see and think beyond the obvious, and for reminding me that artist do and can make a difference and that we need to be compensated for it. You and the TMP deserve a standing ovation!
